Medical Treatment for Thang Bwee

Wednesday, October 19th, 2016

20160910-pcagaa-partner-church-visitors-00007Last month the Rev Dr Thang Bwee of Myanmar came to Australia to attend the General Assembly of Australia and to speak in a number of churches on the eastern coast of Australia. While he was here he was taken to a doctor to investigate a potential heart problem. It turned out to be a 3.5cm ‘hole’ in his heart. The doctors are surprised that Thang Bwee is alive.

Next Wednesday 26th October, Thang Bwee will undergo open heart surgery at Sydney’s Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Please join many around Australia who are praying for a complete recovery. We are extremely grateful for a particular brother in Christ who has been caring for Thang Bwee in Sydney. We are also grateful to a number of specialist doctors who have slashed their treatment fees. The costs are considerable. If you would like to assist then the details you will need are here https://www.apwm.org.au/

Japan: Partnership Agreement

Wednesday, September 14th, 2016

Last night the Australian Presbyterian World Mission report was presented to the General Assembly of Australia. A highlight of the segment was the signing of a a partnership agreement with the Presbyterian work of Japan by the Moderator the Rev John Wilson, and the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Japan, the Rev Kiyoshi Endo. Visitors from overseas churches — Rev Thang Bwee (Myanmar), Pastor Roy Yosef (Vanuatu), and Rev Hiralel Solanki (India) were all personally acknowledged with a presentation made by the Moderator.

Following the APWM report the Assembly received the report of the Relations With Other Churches committee and some of the other overseas visitors addressed the Assembly — John Nicholls (Moderator Free Church of Scotland) and David Bayne told us about the work of the Free Church and Grace Presbyterian Church of New Zealand respectively.

It was a very encouraging evening!

Bibles for South Sudan

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2016

Refugee Camp
APWM Missionary to South Sudan, Motor Isaac Yat, is currently ministering to South Sudanese in the refugee camps in South East Ethiopia. There is a great need there for Bibles.

He writes “Good things are happening in the refugee camps and in Gambella, the hand of God is touching people in many Churches, adults and young people are coming to the Lord, set free from other traditions, practices and beliefs.

“The Presbyterian youth in Gambella organised a conference focussing on the ministry of the Holy Spirit and what the scriptures say about this topic. Those who came to the conference were truly blessed, and I was really blessed by them too. On the last day of the conference we started inside the church at 2:30pm and by 6:00 pm we moved out into the church compound where we finished at 10pm. During that time we had opportunity to pray, to praise God, and share testimonies. I spoke for 45 minutes and when I tried to stop for question time I heard some saying ‘Continue ..continue..continue’ in the Nuer language and I realised they are willing to hear more and I went on for another 15 minutes and then stopped for questions.”

“Pray God will provide the need of Bibles and hymns books. People left everything behind when they became refugees and their houses were burned by government troops. They ran out from the towns for their safety and they did not carry their belongings with them except for the clothes they were wearing at that time.”

APWM is looking to place an order with the Bible Society of Ethiopia and the minimum order they will accept is for 3,000 Bibles. We currently have $20,000 which was given to us for this purpose but we are $8,500 short of the total cost. We are asking churches and individuals to consider joining us in meeting this need for our South Sudanese brothers and sisters. Please forward any donations to the APWM National Office.
